Yushchenko: Europe should speak with one voice on gas market organization

There should be a common strategy for the European gas market, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said in an interview with the Austrian newspaper Die Presse, the presidential press service reported on Thursday.

"It's very important that Europe learns to speak with one voice on the question of organizing the gas market," Yushchenko said, Kyiv Post reported.

He also said that Ukraine's gas transportation system (GTS) was an inseparable part of the European gas market.

Yushchenko said that the system should not be considered "as something secondary or just be regarded as Ukraine's problem."

"Of course, our GTS also needs to be modernized, but it's not a problem that should be discussed as the No. 1 problem. The technological and technical state of the Ukrainian GTS is reliable and stable," he said.

He also said that Ukraine's GTS was one of the most effective gas transportation systems.
