Naftogaz says gas price for Ukraine to be USD 270-280

The expected price for the Russian natural gas for Ukraine in the second quarter of 2009 is USD 270 - 280 per 1,000 cubic meters, says Valentyn Zemlianskyi, Naftogaz of Ukraine press secretary.

According to him, exact calculations will take into account the quotations of boiler and gas oil in the European market in March.

Zemlianskyi reminded that the price reduction would not tell on the price of gas for Ukrainian consumers, because it was set as an annual average.

Valeriy Golubev, Russia's Gazprom deputy CEO, told the conference in Brussels Monday that Ukraine would buy Russian gas at USD 280 per 1,000 cubic meters in 2Q09.

In the first quarter of 2009, Ukraine paid Russia for gas USD 360 for 1,000 cubic meters.
