IMF mission extends its visit to Ukraine

An International Monetary Fund mission has extended its visit to Ukraine by the end of this week, UKRINFORM reported, referring to the Delo newspaper.

Over this period, the fund's representatives are planning to hold additional meetings at the Ukrainian government. Only after that, the IMF could decide on the allocation of the second tranche to Ukraine within a standby loan.

The mission was scheduled to end its visit to Ukraine on February 4. The fund's board of directors was expected to take a final decision on the allocation of funds to the country in Washington early next week.

The fund's previous mission worked in Ukraine in early December 2008.

On November 5, 2008, the IMF decided to allocate a USD 16.4 billion standby loan to Ukraine to tackle the economic crisis. On November 10, 2008, the country received USD 4.5 billion as the first tranche from the fund.
