Ukraine appreciates consistency of new Turkmen leadership

Ukraine appreciates consistency of the new Turkmen leadership, Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Minister Yuri Boyko said, “Cabinet press office” reported.

"We try to be useful for Turkmenistan, in the same manner as it is interested in cooperation with Ukraine. Official statements by the new leadership of Turkmenistan prove succession. It is very important for Ukraine. We are trying to build our relations on the equal and strategic basis, and I believe we succeed in this," the Minister said.

As Boyko noted, Turkmenistan has been a strategic partner of Ukraine for a long time. Ukraine receives Turkmen gas in the amount of 38 billion cu. m. annually, which is about 50% of the state's demand. There are several scaled investment projects, for instance, Ukraine is building a bridge over the Amu Darya River and an irrigative water drain in the vicinity of Ashgabat. Ukraine takes part in reconstruction of three compressor stations. The general cost of all investment projects is some one billion USD.

Yuri Boyko also expressed his hope that Ukraine could soon return to the issue of its participation in developing carbohydrate fields in Turkmenistan. Ukraine has received several proposals of gas and oil shelf extraction in Turkmenistan. "But we have our own program of the Black Sea shelf and it prevailed," he added.
