Azarov: Tymoshenko rides dead horse

Finance Ministry of Ukraine, headed by Mykola Azarov, sharply criticized statement of BYuT leader Yulia Tymoshenko, who declared that Ukraine’s participation in Common Economic Area along with Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus will lead to loss of sovereignty.

“Myths about supranational body CEA and transfer of sovereign power are dead horse, riding which is thoughtless and funny idea,” the statement of the Ministry says.

The Finance Ministry states that Ukraine’s participation in CEA will not lead to loss of sovereignty, while theoretical membership in the EU and NATO may cause this: Ukraine would lose the right of independent customs and credit policy, as well as Ukrainian armed forces would be controlled by joint command.

The Ministry underlined that early agreements on Ukraine’s participation in CEA saw “very advantageous regulation for Ukraine” – creation of free trade zone among Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, simplification of customs and border procedures for citizens of these countries.

On Monday, February 12 the BYuT leader Yulia Tymoshenko said that aim of the Cabinet of Viktor Yanukovych concerning accession into Common Economic Area is the next attempt to destroy sovereignty of Ukraine.

According to her, CEA is suprastate structure that can do harm the Ukrainian interests.

“I am against that Ukraine becomes a part of empire,” she said.

Tymoshenko threatened that as Azarov begins process on accession of Ukraine into CEA, she will act sharply.
