President to veto Cabinet law again

Victor Yushchenko has sent a letter to Verkhovna Rada Speaker Olexander Moroz, president’s press office informs.

The President said a cabinet law he had received did not correspond to the December 21 cabinet law, as it had no item 4 in part 7 of article 23.

This difference was confirmed in a letter to the Presidential Secretariat on December 29 with a request to change one page in the law. The Secretariat refused to fulfill the request because it would have violated Ukraine’s constitution, for the Verkhovna Rada Speaker has to sign all the bills passed by parliament. Thus the President can use the July 7/1998 decision by the Constitutional Court to veto last Friday's Law on Cabinet of Ukraine.
