Tarasyuk met with American senator John McCain


On March 9, 2006 in the course of the meeting with an influential American senator, a member of the Committees on Commerce, Science and Transportation and Armed Services of the US Senate John McCain Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Borys Tarasyuk noted “Ukraine will ensure compliance with the highest democratic standards in the course of conduct of elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on March 26, 2006."

Tarasyuk informed the interlocutor of internal political situation development in Ukraine in particular preparation for the parliamentary elections on March 26, 2006. At that he emphasized that the public authorities of Ukraine would make all efforts to ensure fair and transparent electoral process.

In the course of the meeting the sides discussed series of urgent issues of the Ukrainian – American agenda in particular joining of Ukraine to the World Trade Organization and cooperation with the NATO.

During the conversation Tarasyuk and Mr McCain paid special attention to the issue of energy security in Europe.

The Head of the Ukrainian foreign policy office made a request of the American senator to render assistance in mounting a Monument for the Holodomor victims of Ukraine in Washington.
