President Yushchenko: “Society expects politicians to establish a constructive dialogue”

Presiddent of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko presided over a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the President's press office reported.

Its participants exchanged their ideas on resolving Ukraine’s social and political crisis, caused by last week’s parliamentary vote to sack the cabinet, and discussed major challenges.

Commenting on tomorrow’s joint session of the Verkhovna Rada and his government, the Head of Stateopined that this session would make sense if it was constructive.

“Society expects politicians to establish a constructive dialogue and consolidate and find compromises but not to exchange electoral passions and emotions,” he said.

Yushchenko reiterated that the only political and legal way to settle the conflict was to bring it to the Constitutional Court, so he insisted that its judges should be sworn in during the session.

The President also emphasized the importance to hold it publicly so that the people should hear all thoughts about pressing political issues. He called on all interested parties to have a fruitful dialogue and demonstrate wisdom, politeness and respect for society and government. The Head of State added that he was ready to present his plan on how all branches of power should interact during this year’s campaign and said he hoped other parties were ready for this dialogue and eager to compromise and would put the public mood and national interestsfirst.
