Yuschenko dismisses Savenko of post of National Television Company's President

President Viktor Yushchenko has accepted the resignation of the National Television and Radio Company's President Aleksander Savenko.

State Secretary Oleksandr Zinchenko announced this to journalists in Kharkiv.

According to Zinchenko’s words, Savenko submitted his resignation letter on February 14 and Yuschenko accepted it.

Alexander Savenko, 49 years old, became the president of the company in March 2003.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the parliament asked former president Leonid Kuchma in 2004 to consider whether Savenko was unfit for his post because of his failure to implement Ukrainian laws.

Head of Parliamentary Committee for Freedom of Speech and Information, PM Nykolaj Tomenko called on the parliament to dismiss Savenko, accusing him of embezzling the budget funds allocated for financing the operations of the company.

The president of the Ukrainian National Television and Radio Company belongs to the first category of civil servants.

The Ukrainian National Television and Radio Company, which broadcasts on the national channel, is accountable to the parliament and the President of Ukraine.
